Feed-In Tariffs
The Feed-In Tariff is a Government incentive which rewards owners of renewable energy systems by paying them for each unit of energy that their system generates.
The Government designed the scheme to encourage the uptake of renewable energy by offering financial support to anyone who installs an eligible renewable energy system such as Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels or a Wind Turbine at their property.
You will be paid by your electricity supplier for the electricity you generate and use and you will also receive an additional payment for the electricity you generate and do not use, which is exported back to the national grid.
The Feed-in Tariff payments are guaranteed for 20 years, and during this time you will also be reducing your energy bills and protecting yourself form future energy price hikes.
The scheme is open to everyone in England, Scotland and Wales who installs an eligible renewable energy system which can generate electricity. Anyone in the domestic, commercial, farming, education, building and public sectors can receive the Feed-in Tariff.
For small to medium sized installations, both the installer and the equipment must be certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
