Air Source Heat Pumps
Renewable energy systems are fast becoming the preferred alternative to fossil fuelled systems due to their long-term savings, both financially and environmentally. Heat pumps are electrically powered appliances consisting of a compressor and two carefully matched heat exchangers designed to provide space heating through water systems, either radiators or underfloor, by extracting from a free, renewable energy source such as the earth, water or air.

The earth, water or air absorbs and stores heat from the sun and from the earth’s core. In the UK the average constant temperature of the earth at about 1.5m deep, is 5 to 6°C. A similar situation exists with underground water sources or large surface water sources. It is also possible to extract considerable heat from the ambient air at temperatures as low as -15°C.
Heat Pumps are a very cost effective means of providing space heating, because of the high efficiency of the units, the output heat energy can be up to 4 times the electrical input power - something not possible with other methods of heating.

Why choose a heat pump?
The running cost of an air source heat pump is much lower than a conventional electrical heating system as the householder only pays for running the compressor and fan, therefore the majority of the energy supplied to the house is renewable and free. Also heat pumps give a long trouble free life with very low maintenance costs. The expected life of a BWarm heat pump is 20 years – much higher than an oil or gas boiler.

Carbon emissions are an ever increasing concern to global warming, the BWarm air source heat pump will save up to 3 tonnes of carbon per year compared to other forms of heating - producing 50% less than a gas boiler, and 72% less than an all electric system, taking into account the inefficiency of power stations and losses in the delivery of electricity. From my visit, I concluded that your home is suitable to have an air source heat pump installed to provide all your hot water and central heating. Air pumps have a COP value of 4:1 (4Kw out for every 1Kw consumed).

Nordic Inverter.
The Nordic Inverter is the latest generation of air/air heat pumps finding success in Swedish homes. This amazing unit will cool a large open plan room in Summer and provide heating in Winter, while saving energy at the same time! Now it has a number of improvements and a new slim-line design. It’s perfect for those with direct electric heating. The Nordic Inverter means large savings (up to 70% according to the Swedish Consumer Agency test 2006,) a pleasant indoor climate and cleaner air.

The Nordic Inverter can be set to provide progressive air flow for agreeable
draught free heating. This means that the air is led down along the wall and out across the floor where it then slowly rises. This gives a nice warm floor and the heating is distributed more evenly.

When the Nordic Inverter is used for cooling, the cool air can be guided in the same way towards the ceiling from where it falls down through the room in a draught free manner.
